We designed a carbon-negative reception hut for an industrial estate.
Bắc Ninh province has experienced a revolution in industry since Samsung opened its first factory site in the
area in the late 2000s. Anonymous rice paddies are being gradually replaced with anonymous industrial estates
as the area becomes northern Vietnam's (and one of south-east Asia's) manufacturing centre.
These industiral estates were built quickly and cheaply, with many now facing significant issues of flooding
and poor maintenance. In the face of this, the welcome hut presents a small presentation of an
alternative.
Made of small cubes of timber, and raised above the flood level, the hut compresses an eating space, desk, and
bed within a small footprint.
